Our People in the Community: South Bend Office

By Maureen Johnson, HR Director (South Bend, IN)

On the beautiful Saturday morning of June 1st, with temperatures in the low 80s, some members of our Holladay family gathered in the parking lot at 227 S. Main Street before heading to the Sunburst starting line at Four Winds Field. We had 14 people sign up this year, the largest group we’ve ever had.

When asked about their experience at Sunburst, Eileen Burgess said, “Our 3 generations picture. Started out the morning in a rush, but we were so glad that we did it. It was a perfect morning for a walk (Sophia ran and had a personal best) and we felt so good starting our day with some exercise. All three of us said we wanted to do it again next year.”

For those who are not familiar with the Sunburst, this is a community event that Holladay has participated in for the last five years. Sponsored by Beacon Health System and KeyBank, runners/walkers can participate in a half  marathon, a 10K run, a 5K run and a 5K fitness walk.

Also, these races are certified by the United States of America Track and Field governing body on all courses. All proceeds go to the Beacon Children’s Hospital.  For our Holladay team, most participated in the 5K run or the 5K fitness walk.

“I walked mostly with our HR Director and got a lot of updated HR, insurance, 401K info. that was helpful — and, most importantly, it masked the pain of the 5K I would otherwise have been feeling,” John Phair said.

We all had a great time, not just walking, but having the opportunity to have positive bonding time with co-workers outside the office. Plus we finished our race on the 50 yard line of Notre Dame Stadium  Can’t wait to do this again next year  We’ll send out an invite next year. Come join us!
